Three Common Roofing Problems

Three Common Roofing Problems

Many people forget how much maintenance roof’s require and tend to put off their roof inspections until it has become a serious, and expensive, issue. Avoid this by staying aware of some common roofing problems and fix the small issues before they become big ones! Leaking Leaks are probably the most common roofing problem and they generally go completely undetected until there’s a big storm and you’re left to break out the drip buckets. The cause for these leaks can vary depending on the type of roof you have. It could be due to anything from severe weather, faulty installation, or it may be just an old corroded roof. The main solution to avoiding leaks is to stay proactive and get your roof inspected at least once a year. Cracks Roof cracks typically go hand-in-hand with roof leaks. If there’s a crack, there’s bound to be leaking eventually. However, the earlier the cracks in the roof are found, the simpler the repair is! Most surface cracks can be fixed up easily with sealant. But the longer a crack is left undetected, the more opportunity there is for exposure to the elements and further damage. Stay on top of this problem before it becomes a huge, expensive nuisance! Ponding Water Ponding Water happens when the water pools up on top of a roof after a rainstorm. This problem is one of the most serious as it can leave risk for a roof collapse. It’s important to ensure that your roof has the type of drainage system in place that it needs in order to avoid a potentially hazardous collapse and... read more
The 8 Signs You Need a New Roof

The 8 Signs You Need a New Roof

The task of deciding you need a new roof can be daunting. While you can usually tell if you have a leak somewhere, it’s a little more complicated to decide you need to get a whole new roof. Sometimes you can be in need of a new roof without experiencing a roof failure. If you don’t replace your roof in time, it can cause major, costly repairs to your house. If you aren’t sure if you need a new roof check out these 8 tips: 1. Shingle damage – If you see that there are missing shingles or that the shingles are curling back or buckling out, this could be cause for concern. Cracked shingles, caused by wind and can also serve as a warning. 2. Roof Age – If your roof is more than 20 years old, it might be time for a new roof. Even if your roof looks good from the outside, being more than 20 years old can cause some major damage. 3. Granules – If you find that your shingles are losing their granules or excessive granules in your gutters, there might be cause for concern. Shingles tend to lose their granules toward the end of their life cycle. 4. Moss – If you can visibly see moss or mold growing on your roof or in your attic, you probably need a new roof. Moss will grow in consistently moist areas so if your roof is maintaining that level of moisture, you probably need a new roof. 5. Attic Check – If you can see leaks or ice in your attic you might need... read more
