How to Spot Hail Damage to Your Roof

If you live in Texas, you are no stranger to hailstorms. Homeowners in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and surrounding areas are affected every year and are left with damaged roofs as a result. The roof is one of the most important parts of any home or commercial building, as it keeps everything in it safe and secure from the elements. While you can’t always avoid roof damage from hail, it’s important to detect it early and repair or replace your roof quickly before it transforms into a major problem.

Signs of Hail Damage

The most common sign of hail damage is missing shingles and exposed areas on your roof. Missing shingles can quickly compromise the integrity of your roof and lead to water leaks if left unaddressed. Other signs of surface hail damage are cracked shingles, small divots, soft spots, round dark areas and bruising on your roof. You may also notice the loss of the protective granules which often collect and show up in your downspouts and gutters.

Other signs of hail damage are dings, dents, or splatter marks on your roof vents, gutters, roof flashing or other roof penetrations. If hail has damaged your roof, it has likely damaged other parts of your home or property as well. When you inspect your yard and property, evidence of hail damage may show up as dents in cars, damage to a/c units, leaves stripped from plants or other exterior items damaged.

How to Address Hail Damage

A hail damaged roof is a vulnerable roof. If left unchecked, problems could compound and lead to further damage to your property and even more expensive repairs down the road.
